I know I am not a wise old sage like some people in the community. I just turned 30 however I feel like all my years looking back have changed me. My collective experiences and thoughts have given me a different perspective on life recently. Seven months ago my head was in a gutter and since then a lot of things have happened. I was always the weird kid in the corner reading Star Trek books. When I was in elementary school I thought that kids would throw me birthday parties out of pity because I ...
In January 0f 2009 something crazy and awesome happened for me, SharePoint Saturday was born. I was a 26 year old girl from Saint Louis Missouri who was living in Olathe, KS. About 5 month prior I went to the most pivotal event in my career and life in Washington DC, the Regional SharePoint Conference, where I met Michael Lotter, Paul Galvin, Tony Lanni, Bob Fox, and Rachel Appel. Several months later I was visiting Michael at a code camp in Raleigh North Carolina and he told me we’re going to have ...
I haven’t written a blog post in a while. I understand there is blog neglect going on, but there is a lot going on in my life. I am trying really hard to embrace the change and roll with everything thrown my way. I had a really hard year it was not my best and it was not my worst. I cannot say it was entirely hard, because January 1st I received the MVP Award. If you know me you know the three things that happened starting in August, but if you really know me it was miserable for a substantial period ...
Yeah I know I don’t blog much anymore, because life has taken me places that don’t involve the interwebs unfortunately. I am in the midst of planning two events, starting a non for profit, creating more sessions for various conferences, submitting to various conferences, working a 40 hour a week job, attempting to hang out with boyfriend/friends/family. So you can see that list does not include this blog sadly that’s how it goes sometimes. The bottom piece very important over any of the top pieces. ...
My grandmother wanted me to make her a video when she heard I got MVP in SharePoint Server of one of my sessions. I decided I haven’t visited in two years, so maybe I can do an in person session. I googled around and found South Florida Code Camp, which will be Saturday, February 12th. I will be doing a session at 9:50 in the morning on Silverlight just for my grandmother and whoever shows up. Here is the link for more information: http://www.fladotnet.com/co... In the upcoming months I plan ...
So I was talking to one of my friends, Cathy Dew, and I’m wondering how to start out this post. What kind of title should I put? Somehow we’re just randomly throwing things out and this title pops into my head the one you see above. I woke up today to the buzz of a text message. I spent New Years laying around until 3 am watching Warehouse 13 Episodes and drinking champagne. It was one of the best New Year’s I spent with my boyfriend and my cat. I figured I would sleep in until Noon, but ended up ...
A couple nights ago I got an email stating that I won some award. At first I saw the header and I was skeptical, because I had never really heard of the award. I thought it was another scam where someone wanted me to throw them some personal information in exchange for some GBP...I opened the email and realized my INETA Mentor was cced and I actually won an award. It's been a while since I've won an award. In fact I think the last award I won was in high school or college and involved Cardinal's ...
I swear a good day lasts forever. This day lasted a long time. Let alone this week was pretty good too. First off this unrelated, but I have an MSDN Premium Subscription with Team Systems, so I can finally develop at home without any issues. How awesome is that? I can do what I love to do for fun without have to use trial copies and uninstalling and reinstalling programs. It gets so annoying after a while. I am so excited, because I can finally do the real playing that I want do with Server 2008 ...
Yep it's another 3 post day...My brain has too much filling inside that wants to release itself in words today. Either that or this is excess insanity due to rain and eating oreo cookie moose. So it's no surprise that I want to be an MVP some day some of you may know this fact. The question I have asked people is how do I get there? So far I have tried to pick up a couple speaking gigs at the KC Office Geeks and I spoke at MOSS Camp in St. Louis. I plan on speaking at any MOSS Camp in KC or St. Louis ...
This weekend rocked, but it was also very stressful. I started to think about what I want to do with my career. I have to admit that where I want to go is at least to try to obtain MVP Status. I have to want it enough and head myself in the right direction. I need to stop sitting back and assuming what I am doing is working out. So you guys are going to see some changes happening soon. I have to thank a lot of people for helping me out, especially Sahil Malik and David Isserman. They spoke to me ...
